I have been using fitday.com to try to make sure I burn a few more calories than I take in each day. The whole thing becomes a little obsessive ( I guess trying to do a million push ups would fit under the obsessive category as well)-tracking everthing you eat and then trying to burn off those calories. Nice thing about the website is it will calculate things like yard work and house work. It gives a little more incentive to be helpful around the house. It's not like if I am vaccuming or changing the laundry-I am thinking "I bet this is how those guys in the movie 300 got ready for filming" or anything-However it does make you feel a little less guilty about the chocolate chip cookie you just woofed down.
Phil who started the website one million push ups-posted a comment on my blog. It was his website that got me thinking about doing this. I will try to create a link to his website, but just in case I can' figure it out- his website is
www.millionpushups.com
The guy is amazing -he is closing in on a half a million push ups

The Open Houses and Tours for Ronald McDonald House continue on- more fruit flans and brownies....Our media sneak a peak was the day before yesterday. CTV,CBC Shaw and Global gave us television coverage. The Calgary Herald and The Calgary Sun run pictures/articles yesterday. Radio 66o and Jack fm have been plugging our public Open Houses this weekend. Overall the media treated us very well. The countdown to moving families in to the new house has begun.... April 16 th not even a month away.

Reached the next goal of 10,000 push ups and chins. After a diet of fruit flans and brownies for about a week and 12 to 15 hour work days- the push up numbers are not so great and the weight has jumped back up to 204. The Open Houses, Donor recognition dinners, public open houses, tours etc have started for the new Ronald McDonald House. We will be running a series of these events for donors, stakeholders and the public before we start moving families in to the house in mid April. These events have been a great way to show our supporters what they have helped us build. These events have just started -however already we have shown hundreds of people through the house. The personal downside however has been at every event and tour we are feeding people either deserts or a meal-it has been a little hard to resist some of the treats.
We had our major donor thank you dinner the other night. WildWood Catered the event. If you live in Calgary or are here for dinner-go to the WildWood. The buffulo tenderloin is a life changing event.

Tried to publish a photo of the new house in Calgary -couldn't get it to upload. I will try another format this week. In the mean time you can see photos of the new house at the link to the right. Getting a little closer to the 10k goal. In terms of the push ups/chins-March 11th was a good day but I have been slacking a bit this week.

Getting closer to the 10,000 goal. Lost a little more weight, down to 201. We have one of those tanita bodyfat scales and my percentage of bodyfat is improving a bit as well. At Christmas I was hovering between 24-25% bf. Now I am hoovering around 21%. Really not a healthy percentage of bodyfat. Not quite at the point where people walking down to street would think -"it looks like that guy must do about 300 push ups a day". More like " I wonder how many donuts that guy eats".
Constuction is almost complete on the new Ronald McDonald House Southern Alberta. We should actually be moving families in come mid April. The facility is fantastic. We are working on having a virtual tour made for our website so people who have used the old house (or will be coming to the new house) can see how it looks. The new House has lots of features ( library, fitness area, craft room etc) that we don't have in the current/old house.

Small setback

Had a small setback- had the stomach flu for a couple of days-didn't get a lot of push ups in for a couple of days.
First 25 push ups today were for Stephanie Mathieson. Steph gave a $25 donation for Ronald McDonald House Southern Alberta. Steph probably doesn;t think a couple of hundred push ups is a big deal -she is my daughter and an IronMan Canada finisher. She is also completing a bachelor of kinesiology and a Master of Teaching-so with that education she probably thinks my little experiment is a bit of an un-orthodox way to get back in shape.

Record for a day
Mar/2-600, total 6773
Six hundred chin ups and push ups in a day-that is a daily record for me. It took an hour and ten minutes to do 600. Actually it was two 35 minute workouts, one in the morning and one in the evening. I am not what you would call incredibly "fit" or anything-a little obsessive or persistant mostly-however the almost daily push ups/chin ups seem to be having a bit of a positive effect. When I started I could barely do 5 chin up -now I can do nine for the first set. That 9 quickly becomes sets of 6,5 and4. Yesterday I posted that I was down to 203. Last night I had KFC and bounced back up to 206. I have one of those Tanita body fat scales and it says may percentage of bodyfat is exactly the same as yesterday. So theorectically the weight change is lean muscle as opposed to fat-if the % stays the same. However it seems a little hard to believe that I gained three or more pounds of muscle in one day. The scale is really sensitive and fluctuates a lot -so I will see if the weight stablizes tommorrow or if my one night KFC binge did that much damage ( and the percentage of body fat will go up tommorrow).

down to 203
Mar/1-227, total so far 6173
Well it seems to be working-I'm down another 3 pounds or so to 203 since I started this blog. Not bad started Christmas day with the push ups and chin up and weighed 224. Down about 20 pounds. Overall a rate of about ten pounds lost a month.
