Record for an Hour

June 18-100,June 19-170,June 23-63,June 24-208, total 25,465

I had to take a go at seeing how many chins I could do in an hour. As last time I only made it a half hour or so -I started out with sets of 3 and the down to sets of 2 for most of the one hour block.. I did them similar to Todd's record only instead of doing a set every 30 seconds ,I would do a set ,rest 30 seconds then do another set for the duration of the hour. I was able to do 170 chin ups in the hour. Making 700 is going to take a little bit of work. I wouldn't say I was fresh at the end of the hour, but I could probably push a little more and do more than 17o next time. This time (unlike the last trial) I made sure every chin up was over the bar-that is I made sure to raise my chin over the bar each time. So I guess that made this trial a little harder. Not bad considering this.

Birthday challenge

May 17-162 total 24924

I came across Todd Mei's birthday challenge on birthdaychallenge.com. He wanted to be able to do 700 pull ups in an hour. Every 30 secs he did 5 or 6 chin ups for the duration of an hour. Seemed simple enough I had to try it. Started doing 5 or 6 chins every thirty seconds. The sets soon became sets of 2 or 3 reps and as I got close to the half hour mark it was sets of 1 every thirty seconds. I called it quits after half an hour- did 112 chins. Not bad -but I don't think the people at guiness will be waiting on the line. Well my birthday is August 1st-gotta tke a run at this one 700 chins in an hour. After a little internet surfing I found that the book of alternative records quotes that the world record for push ups in an hour is 3877 held by Bijender Singh(1988). I will have to test how many push ups I can do in an hour- I am pretty sure it won't be around 3000. The one hour record for chins is held by Stephen Hyland at 767 in one hour.

In my May 21 blog I wrote about the cost of various diet plans. I weighed 207.5-two months later I am down to 205.5. Two pounds gone-not setting any records and apparently I won't be writing any diet books or anything. However it is better than going the other way and I really haven't changed the way I am eating. So what the heck

Crackberry

I had been telling myself I would never get one of those Blackberry's. Who needs to be that accessable-I thought. I have been working with the Edmonton RMH as well as the Calgary home for a couple of weeks. A few board members suggested I get one to keep up with both houses now that I was on the road so much. Co-workers have already started to refer to it as my"Crackberry". In some ways I can't believe I lived without it. However it does bring out your most anti social tendencies. I find myself wanting to answer emails as I am driving-clearly if talking on your cell phone is not safe-trying to type with two thumbs can't win any safety awards. The thing kind of does away with the need to talk face to face with people. You are sitting talking with someone-should be giving them your undivided attention right? Then the darn thing begins to vibrate-you just have to see who has sent you an email. Before you know it you are texting back while the person sitting accross from you-wonders if you were such a jerk before you bought a blackberry. Of course you really start to know who the type "a"s in your work and social circle are. Most Mondays when I go into work I have a lot of emails to respond to. I never really pay much attention to the date and time when emails are sent-but with the BlackBerry the thing hums at 2AM or all weekend long. I assume my friends and co-workers think I am the type A because I feel the urge to email right back.
