Over 50k

oct24-356,oct25-340,oct26-70,oct28-522,oct29-321, total 50,998

Phil-414,190 :Larry 50,998

I started doing the push ups and chins in February, about 8 months. On average that works out to about 6374 a month or about 205 a day (divided by 31 days). Not a bad average. I have been tracking my weight over the last year on fitday. During the last year the most I have weighed is 223.5 lbs and the lowest is 200.5. I don't know if anybody believes in the set point theory any more-but I think my set point has to be about 205 or something. My weight seems to fluctuate at around 203-205. As indicated above I have been lower during the last year-but everytime I get really close to the 200 point-I seem to get these intense cravings to eat lots of crap and I bump right up again. I am not likely to get to 100k by New Years-but I am determined to get as close as I can.

Groundbreaking

Oct18-316,oct21-480,oct23-334 ,total 49,389

Phil-414,025- Larry 49,389

The groundbreaking for the Edmonton house was a great success. We must of had about 70-80 people in attendence. Most of the major television stations and newspapers covered the story so we got a little bit of media attention. We are still busy raising the money for the expansion -so the coverage can be a great help to the campaign. We will be posting photos of the ground breaking in the next day or so-so if you are interested you can check the link on the right. If you want to make a donation to the Ronald McDonald House you can do so on-line through the secure link on the homepage.

Phil is busy working towards the one million goal and I keep missing days -so the gap isn't getting any narrower.

Groundbreaking

Phil 413,300- Larry 48,259

We will be having our official groundbreaking at the Edmonton Ronald McDonald House on Monday. The actual demo and digging of the parking lot has begun-this we be the public launch of the build and campaign. The Push up/Chin Up numbers are a little bit up and down due to travel between the two citys taking up quite a bit of time. Still not up to Hershel Walker type numbers for push ups on a daily basis-but having some respectable days none the less.

9 chins

As you can see on the posting on the entry below-Phil is back at the push ups after suffering a shoulder injury. I am not doing so great on the catch up trail after missing three days in a row. Oh well my shoulders probably needed the rest. I messed up on the link to Phil's site on the post below (should be million push ups not one million). The link to the right is correct. Earlier I talked about the "are you Men's Health Fit? '" challenge. I tested myself again on a couple of the challenges. Can do the 9 straight chins ups and 5 pistols per leg now. Can't quite do the 49 straight push ups yet, most of my sets are 20's and some sets of 30's.

Catching up very slowly

sept-30-395,oct2-174,oct-3-216,oct4-244 total-44,929

Phil 412,720 - Larry-44,929

Well Phil's number hasn't gone up so I am assuming he hasn't posted in a while. Nonetheless-all the easier to catch him....

I started out on this quest to do a million push ups and chins up on Feb 10th of this year. Thought I should take stock of where I was. Almost 45 k so far. I had hoped to be close to 100k by the end of one year-but I would need to ramp it up to make this goal. Dividing the 44.9 k by 8 months ( it will be 8 months in a couple of days) I am doing a little over 5600 push ups/chins per month. Divide that number by 31 days in a month works out to about an average of 180 a day. I think I can push a little more and get that average over 200 a day. I started weighing 206 and now weigh 203 -so three pounds lost. Haven't really changed by diet really so that is not bad-but nobody is going to break my door down to write a weight loss book. At the end of August we went on holidays and :wine tours and bad eating had me back up to 212 so I have lost about 9 pounds since the begining of Sept-so when you look at it that way the push ups have been a fairly good weight maintanence strategy. Our Tanita scale says I have lost a percent of body fat-so I suppose that is even a little better. I tried the TRX Superman push ups again and I am able to do them now -sets of one or two reps. I don't think I got stronger in a day or two-I think it is a motor skills kind of thing. It is hard to get into the upright -extended position-pretty wobbly and hard to balance. However now once I can get into position I can do them. Anyway it is thanksgiving weekend so I should get a few good workouts in but that should be balanced out by an overindulgence in turkey and pumpkin pie. The push up numbers will go up but likely the weight will as well.

On another note we demolished the two houses next to to the Ronald McDonald House in Edmonton. We are starting the expansion of the house from 16 suites to 30 suites-big project-we will serve a lot more families each year. You can see some of the photos at:
