Bitter cold

It is bitter cold here in Alberta -minus 48 centigrade with the windchill. If I was a runner I'd be hating this. Of course if I was a runner I suppose I'd buy a treadmill. Thank god I do push ups and chin ups in doors. Well the momentuum appears to continue moving in the right direction. I am definately moving well below the Christmas /Vegas weight. It has been a long long time since I was below 200 pounds. I'm closing in now. The percentage of bodyweight really doesn't want to budge too much. Still eating a little too much crap but most days I am still eating fewer calories than I am burning.

Down 5 ?

Bodyweight 202.5 %bf 23

Here is an example of how sensitive the tanita scale is. Weighed myself last night -208-this morning 202.5. Clearly I will be weighing myself in the morning from now on way better numbers. This is down about 5 and a half pounds since the vegas trip and bit closer to my goal of 185. According to the scale it looks like I lost most of that overnight while I slept. Probably not the case. However if I discover that this trend will really work I will stop doing push ups and chins and just start having naps. The goal of 185 with about 10% bf means about 166 pounds of lean muscle-so I really do not plan to gain any substancial amount of muscle-just mostly burn fat. The trend for me seems to be if the pounds are down the percent of bf bumps up for a day or so. Hopefully this will level out over time.

Again I have put on a bit of weight since my last post, however I did the calculations again to findout what this really meant. According to tanita my lean body mass is up to 162.2, up about a pound and some change. My bodyfat is up a bit also (45.76) around a third of a pound of fat more. I was doing some reading on Clarence Bass' site -he reports to use a tanita scale also. He thinks it is a good way to measure bodyfat-because you can take frequent measures on your own with out a lot a cost and hassle. However he does report that the bf measurement is highly sensitive to the time of day you weigh yourself, your hydration level or whether you have worked out recently. My overall bf percent really hasn't gone down a lot. They say to see those abs you've got to get the bf below ten percent. I am moving the right direction, but wouldn't mind driving that percentage down a bit.

Well the last time I Weighed myself I was a little discouraged -up a couple of pounds. However I did the calculations to see what my bodyfat was in pounds at 22%. Not that 22 percent is great by any standard. However my bodyfat is 45.43 lbs as opposed to 47.03lbs last weigh in. My lean bodymass is 161.07lbs compared to 157.47. Couple pounds of lean bodymass gained and a pound or two of fat lost-this calorie counting might be working after all. The push ups and chin up numbers are up and down a bit-however I had a pretty good weekend. Still doing some weight with Cathy also-that is burning a few extra calories.

According to fitday I am still burning more calories than I am eating. I went up a pound and down a percentage of bodyfat-theoretically that means I am burning fat and building lean tissue. All in all I am kind of moving in the right direction, although psychologically it always feels better to see a smaller number on the scale. Overall I don't think I am eating enough protein -each day I seem to be averaging between 50 to 80 grams of protein as a result of eating fewer calories. Although eating less -but eating crap isn't helping either. I am trying to eat less which means usually I don't eat all day. Then I am hungry as hell and eat like a bear when I do eat something. Not a strategy I'd recommend. Have to work a little harder at eating smaller portions throughout the day and eat more protein. Nonetheless still eating less than I burn and the bf and weight numbers are in general moving the right direction. Not dramatic results but still getting some results.

Haven't weighed myself in a day or two so I am not sure where I'm at. My weight loss on the scale seems to be exceeding what the calorie deficit suggests I should have lost-however I may just be overestimating my portion sizes when I enter them in fit day. With the exception of one day since we have been back from Vegas I have been able to consistantly burn more calories than I eat-so far so good.

On another note Rhett Warrener and the Calgary Flames held a bowlerama for the house last week. It was a great event. Families from the house got to bowl with the Flames. It was a fund raiser and the final numbers are not in but it looks like it made some decent money for the house. There are some pictures on our website to the right. Well I am down in weight again however my bodyfat percentage keeps jumping up. This probably means I am losing lean bodymass. This in itself is not a good thing. I am losing pounds so I am not going to change too much at this point, as I know the tanita scale is only so accurate. I can weight myself 3 times in the same day and get three different bf percent readings. Right now I am just going to bask in the fact that I lost 5 pounds in about a week. This week (according to fitday.com) I ate fewer calories than I burned each day with the exception of one day were Cathy brought home T-Bone steaks. Passing up a good steak and baked potatoe dinner seemed short sighted somehow. Usually Friday is "fastfood" Friday around our house. This weekend we really haven't had any fast food-so the kids are not so happy with my new get abs plan. They are not so hard done by-we did go to a movie yesterday- I just didn't have any of the nachos and popcorn. Well so far so good. I'll keep you posted.

Well down a pound in a coule of days-that good news. Percentage of body fat jumped up a bit-thats not such great news. I am hoping that this is some inconsistancy in the tanita scale or something to do with hydration level or something. Nonetheless I am taking losing a pound as a good thing and we will see if the bf levels out in a day or too. I am not raking up the push ups and chins at the rate I expected, but I have been doing a little bit of weights in addition to the push ups. Just trying to burn more than I eat. I have been eating a little less of course in addition which is helping to create the deficit.

Well its a new year. Last year wasn't that bad for push ups and chin ups. The average per day was over 167 a day or 5100 per month. Respectable numbers to try to beat this year. Vegas was great-ate and drank way more than I needed. Hours of walking up and down the strip seemed to keep the weight from ballooning too much. Well new years is the time of resolutions. I am definately going to try to beat this years daily and monthly averages for push ups and chin ups to get me closer to my goal of a million. The push ups have mainly been about the "numbers" but this year I think I want to push the envelope a bit. I guess I want to use them to buff up a bit. I have never been able to see my abs-this is the year I am going to get a six pack. I think this is all about the numbers too. Last night I weighed myself on the tanita scale- 208.5 pounds with 20 percent bodyfat. I have read that you have to get down below 10 percent bodyfat to start seeing your abs. At the same lean bodyweight that means I need to get down to about 185. This is a weight I havent been close to since University. But this year I am going to do it. Basically That means losing 23.5 pounds of fat-or burning 82250 calories more than I eat (times 3500). I am going to do tons and tons of push ups and chins ( meets my long term goals as well as creates the calorie deficit). I will be using fitday to track calories eaten and burned. I will be reporting the weight and bodyfat here to keep me honest and to keep the pressure mentally to meet the goals. Who knows when I hit 10 percent I might even post some pictures.

So here we have it Jan 6 weight -208.5 bodyfat 20 percent
total push ups and chins 61,711
