Beastskills has a new tutorial on how to do a one-arm push ups. The link to the tutorial is here:

http://www.beastskills.com/OneArmPushup.htm

Check it out.

I have been slacking a bit this week on the push ups/ chins. I am determined to bump it up a bit for the rest of the week. My work/travel schedule has been a little hectic-but that is no excuse-you can do push ups anywhere. Thought I should post just to keep myself honest.

Handstand push ups

I have noticed the handstand push ups is a big part of the crossfit workouts.Now I have seen photos of people doing these or videos, but some part of me believes they are not really humanly possible-despite the evidence to the contrary. The crossfit mainpage had some variations so that you can work yourself up to doing these "beast". I have been doing a variation where my feet are up in the air on a bar help up on a squat rack. My version is more like an almost vertical incline push ups yet I know that the real thing is way harder to do.

Recession good for health?

I was listening to the radio the other day. In one of the segments there were two experts who felt that the global recession may actually help the health of North Americans. Part of the evidence was based on some surprising stastics like the improvements in infant mortality rates exerienced in Australia during the great depression. Both researchers pointed to a number of indicators-that seemed to make thier position seem realistic. However on the same day I heard that world-wide McDonalds had increased it sales 7.1 % over last years percentage-and they were experiencing record growth. I know a couple of McDonald operators and none of them seem at all worried by the up-coming recession. The researchers theory was that in times of recession we are more likely to do fewer things that are bad for us and more things that are good. In general that might be true. But it still seems that fewer people may be taking their families to the nice sit down resteraunts-but they may still grab the cheaper fast food . In North America- it is essentially a lot more expensive to eat a good diet.

I added the counter to the left a little after New Years. I was surprised to over 1300 visits to my blog have occured over January ( and the first bit of February). Just time for a quick post today-as I need to hit the highway early. I started this blog yesterday, but couldn't think of anything to say, just wanted to get the push ups numbers posted.

Found a new site that I have posted the link to over in the left hand column. It is called give me twenty seven ( http://www.giveme27.com/ ). The creator of the website quotes this New York Times article as the idea behind the website;
The idea is that based on national averages (U.S I am assuming) that the average forty year old man should be able to do 27 push ups in one set. With my new year goal of being able to do sets of one hundred push ups-I tested myself today. I can now do a set of 56 push ups straight-new record-awesome. Anyway the website is not a bad idea -you can track your push ups-compare to previous records, averages etc. On another note it was a good day for push ups. I did over one thousand. A couple of sets of 50's and lots and lots of sets of ten. It took me just over an hour. Not bad-I won't be setting any world records all that soon-but not bad for a guy in his forties.

I noticed that crossfit had a cool cardio/ aerobics/endurance website as if the workouts on the mainpage were not enough :

www.crossfitendurance.com

I have tried a few of the workouts geared for the concept 2 rower. I don't have a rower but the crossfit faq provides an alternate exercise-sumo dealift style high pulls (now that is a mouthfull). So essentially I have been doing the c2 workouts using a barbell to do sumo dealift style high pulls or a kettlebell to do swings. I like these because I really hate running and most other types of cardio-but still at my age should be thinking about the old ticker.
