under 200

I have been a liitle more consistent this week with push ups, chins and other workouts. Got the weight back down slightly under the 200 pound mark. To up the calorie burn I have been hitting the heavy bag, jumping rope or swinging the kettlebells each day in addition to push ups and chins. All three of these things get the heart rate up-but in general I am not a big fan of cardio . Somehow these activities feel a little more like "manly" cardio than an eliptical machine or something like that-and when I am talking about jumping rope I am thinking like a boxer not like a school girl.

As you can see by my weight goal graph -I am not staying on target to get down to 185. The overall trend seems to be more up than down. Hectic schedule and lots of travel has made eating well and working out a bit inconsistent. I am determined to make this week a little better.

Staggered Workload

My right shoulder is starting to act up again. To try to take it easy I have begun staggering heavy or high volume days (for push ups/chins) with some lighter days. I suppose light and heavy are subjective- For me a day is light if I do 200 push ups/chins or less and heavy is 500 or more chins/push ups. Hopefully this will give my shoulder a little extra time to heal-without having to stop doing push ups altogether.

You've got to check out this website:
Everyjoe fitness- I've got to admit I have to check it out every week or so. There are some decent articles, but the site always does these reviews on the latest fitness gadgets. Pretty honest reasonable reviews of new products. I am a bit of a fitness gadget junky. Not that I buy them all -I just like to see what crazy gadgets are coming out next. I did lose the battle with the temptation to buy when I saw Jumpsnap the ropeless jump rope on the site. The gadget is pretty good. Skipping is a pretty good workout-but jumping rope is a particular skill-a skill that I am not great at. I am always tripping over the rope and then having to get the momentuum going again. While you stop and start your heart rate keeps going back down. The Jumpsnap doesn't have any of that nonsense-no rope to trip over. The "rope" does actually feel surprisingly like regular skipping -it also makes a noise very similar to the sound the rope makes when it hits the floor- helps you to keep the rhythm. Pretty cool check out the site -the link to the Jump Snap website is on the everyjoe site. But if you want to go directly to the ropeless website here is the link:

site counter

Sometime in January I added a site counter over to the left to see how many people were visiting this blog. The number on the left says that 2489 people have visited this blog-well that could be a lot of the same people visiting it more than once I suppose. Sometime around April the site counter that I had on my blog just stopped working. I didn't notice for a while, but when you click onto "stats' you realize that the last visitor the thing logged was about mid April. I have added a new site counter and started the count where the last counter stopped. Not that any off this has a lot to do with my goal to do a million push ups/chins.

Above is my updated fitday weight goal chart. Tomorrow it is going to look a little different. While I was out of town last week. Our family conspired against me to try to cancel our family biggest loser contest. They had decided that no one was losing weight and we should cancel the contest. When we talked about it -it seemed that everyone had lost 7 or 8 pounds. A few of our families members had lost more but had gained it back and were hovering around 7 pounds down. We decided that we were still all making progress-so instead of ending the contest on May 15th -we would extend it to July 1st. As we have extended the deadline I have revised my goal (and the graph in Fitday ) to take me down to 185. Now I haven't weighted this little since I was in High School-so it will be a bit of a stretch for me.
