We are off to Vegas at the end of the week. We are on a plane for a long weekend -taking the kids and thier boyfriends, husbands etc. Ironically we are not really gamblers at all-so there will likely be little of that- the odd coin in a slot I suppose. Usually we all go out to Penticton, and stay at a cabin in OK falls. Steph and Travis do Ironman and we watch. This year they decided to take a break -leaving us without plans for the week. We were having trouble getting everybody to go away at the same time so we just decided-lets get everyone to head out to Vegas. Probably the only push ups I will do as of Friday will be pushing up and away from the buffet table. Viva Las Vegas

Anyone who does chins ups-or wishes they could do a chin up, had to be inspired by Will Smith in the movie I Am Legend. His wide grip chins behind the neck were awesome.
Well I don't think the hands are broken. They are a little thrashed from the long boarding and they hurt when I do push ups-but I can do them. I did over 300 tonight so I suppose they can't be broken. This is my 201st post on this blog- I suppose that means this push up/chin up thing is officially an obsession now.

Afternoon of longboarding-call it crosstraining

Took the day off work today to go long -boarding with, Joey, my youngest son. For those of you who don't know a longboard is just a skateboard (it is as the name says very long). We were out on the pathways around my home town for about 3 1/2 hours. Not skating the whole time, most of the time ,with a short stop for lunch and the occassional stop to watch the river flow or catch our breath. The long boards glide quite a bit, so you don't have to keep pumping your legs to keep them going -just a couple of pushes and then you can glide for quite a bit. Nonetheless it is still quite a work out. I am sure I will be sore by tomorrow. It seems more anaerobic than aerobic because the boards do keep going for quite a while. Being a bit of an old man who is not too coordinated -to my sons surprise and I am sure embarassment -I took two spills that resembled face plants. Lucky for me I was wearing a helmet- and somehow doing a shoulder role instead of continuing forward or should I say faceward -as I am falling -seems to be instinctive. Anyway I did plant firmly on my palms twice. My hands are a little thrashed up-but mostly I am worried that they feel like I might have broken or cracked a bone or two in my hand. I can still type so they can't be that bad.

Goals by New Years

As indicated in the post below to make my goal of 200k by New Years I need to do about 42 push ups/chins a day, to make a quarter million push up/chins I need to do about 345 per day. Just so I don't burn myself out I am going to alternate a heavy day with a light day. That is one day I am going to try to do more than 42 push ups and/or chin ups. On the alternate day I am going to try to make or beat 345 a day. I am going to try to beat the average I need per day so that I still make one of the goals despite needing to take the occasional day off altogether. As I can do a lot more push ups than I can do chins I will probably focus on chins on the "light" day and push ups on the "heavy" day.

200k target reasonable

I am over 193k worth of push ups and chins ups. 200k is within reach for the end of the year. At this rate-there is about 5 and a half months left in the year. That works out to about 1216 push ups and/or chins per month. If the average month had 30 days ( which it doesn't -it has a little more) then I would have to do about 42 chins/push ups per day. No problem. I was kind of hoping to get to the quarter million push ups/chins mark by New Years. At this point this is a little more of a challenge. At this point I have 56963 to go to make 250,000. With 5 and a half months to go that gives me a target of about 10,356 per month. Achieveable but challenging. Using the same 30 days per month average that gives me about 345 push ups to do a day. Well I definately can do 42 a day- 345 will be harder but I am going to give it at try

Down weight- a bit

I did go away for a few days leading up to and over the weekend. I managed to keep my weight under control. Well the truth is I went up about 7 pounds because I didn't get a lot of workouts in. I was just determined to get my weight back down before I did a post again. So I am down a portion of a pound from where I was last time I post -about a week ago. I suppose it is a good thing you can go wild and binge over a long weekend -go up about seven pounds and get it back down in about a week. My percentage of body fat has gone way up -but it seems to fluctuate up and down a bit as my weight goes up and down. Actually after my binge weekend-many pieces of pizza and chicken wings-I was up to 207 but my bodyfat was a little under 20 percent. I thought "great I didn't work out and I ate like a pig but I gained muscle and lost fat ( according to my bf % reading anyway). The next day it had jumped back up -so I guess easy come easy go

I'm out of town for a few days, so there will be no crossfit type workouts for a few days. Managed to get a bunch of push ups and close grip push ups down inthe hotel room. Nice thing about push ups is you can do them anywhere.

Winston Churchill said "if you are going through hell-keep going". I think he was refering to the battle of Britain -but in a way it applies to almost any but situation in life-put your head down and just keep going. Somehow comparing the Battle of Britain to Crossfit workout seems a little trite- however something about them -even thought they are really brief- you just want to get them done and get it over with. I seem to be experiencing a little drop in weight- maybe due to the crossfit? I am less than 10,000 push ups/chins from the 200k mark -should be able to hit 200k before the year is over. I am hoping on hitting a quarter of a million by new years. That would take an average of over 330 push ups or chins a day until New Years. This is a little more than I have been doing lately but - I think I will push for it (no pun intended).
