Well last week of holidays are almost over. My job is great-but winning the lotto right now- would be fine by me. My mom heads back east this weekend-so no more lunch and dinners out entertaining. Nice to have a visit, but getting life back to normal will be good on the pocketbook and the waistline.

The Vegas holiday and the Chicago business trip are done so I should be able to get back to regular workouts and diet. My mom is in town for a week visit, so there should be some minor disruption-but for sure after this week things will be back to normal. I am over 200 k in my quest for one million push ups/chins- minor milestone reached.
To start my push ups or chins for the day I have started working my way through the perfect push ups and pull up routines listed on their website:
At this point just doing the daily workout doesn't cut it so I am doing a few more push ups or pull ups above and beyond the workout. Just doing thier workout for a bit of variety. I do have the push up bar, but not the pull up bars ( just using a regular chin up bar).

1000 workout

It was a good push up/chin up day yesterday-pounded out a 1000. Not all at the same time took me a workout in the morning and one in the evening. Nonetheless any day I do 1000 push ups and chins is a pretty good day. For my trouble I was down a pound or two this morning.

Men's Health Magazine has a cool new feature on thier website. It ranks popular eating spots on thier menu's nutritional value. It ranks them and gives them an A, A- ,B etc type rating. If you click on the particular chain' s name it will drill down into the specific's of the restaurants menu items. For example it ranks McDonald,s as a B+ overall, if you drill down items like the Big Breakfast are given a c- or apple dippers an a-. It also gives the calorie amount for the particular item. You can sign up for their Eat this Not That newsletter on the website:
This section of thier site actually has a lot of interesting links for comparisons of just what you should select at a particular sit down or fast food restaurant.

Atomic Push ups

Still in Chicago on business, so I don't have a clue what my weight is at. I have been just keeping a running tally of the number of push ups I have done while I am out of town. No access to a chin up bar. The above picture is of an atomic push up on the trx. They are challenging and pretty much work the whole front of the body. TRX has a challenge on you tube for people to do 40 of these followed by 40 rows on the trx. Here is a link to a demonstration and the challenge:

Off to Chicago

I am off to Chicago for a conference next week. Hoping to do better on the road with keeping up doing push ups than I have done since I have been back from Vegas. Despite not walking 10 kilometers or so I have been able to keep the weight down under 200. Hopefully Chicago Deep Dish Pizza won't undo my progress.

Back to the Grind

Well Vegas was great. I had been feeling a little lower back pain before the trip, so I decided to just take a break from push ups and chins altogether, I did a total of 45 push ups since last Friday. Despite all you can eat buffets and a great deal of indulgence overall, mostly eating -I only put on a few pounds. We didn't really do any gambling to speak of-threw a dollar here and there into the penny slots. Mostly wanted to see as much as we could see. This involved lots and lots of walking up and down the strip. I knew the girls would want to do lots of shopping and everyone would want to go to shows and see all the attractions (or as much as you could see in 5 days). I took a pedometer with me and wore it when we were on the strip. Each day we walked somewhere between 15,000 and 20,000 steps. This explains why despite lots of food I only gained a little bit of weight and actually dropped a couple percent bodyfat. We must of averaged about 10 kilometers of walking a day if not more. Ironically,I have a hard time getting below 20 percent bodyfat- I guess this goes to show-I probably could benefit from some low intensity cardio. The heat in Vegas was amazing-it was over 100 degrees everyday (107 was the highest). At that tempature even the wind is hot, not something you are used to in Canada. Walking in the shade doesn't help much either. Anyway back to the grind.
