Calorie Burn

Oct 6-459. oct8-215, oct 9-285

Thought I should get a post in. I have been a little more consistent this week in posting on my other blog. Essentially right now tracking my efforts to get beach ready for Mexico next month. I have mostly been using the push ups and chins ups as an additional strategy to burn calories. I have been trying to do either supersets or small sets with only 30 seconds rest in between. Keeping that heart rate and calorie burn up. My heart rate monitor also measures calorie burn, which is interesting as I seem to be able to get my heart rate up quicker supersetting push ups and variations of chins, than when I run. Also overall I am getting a better calorie burn. Partly because I run at a slow shuffle and I have conditioned myself to do set after set of chin ups or push ups. If you want to see how my prep for Mexico is going check my other blog. http://20poundsdifference.blogspot.ca/

Weight down

I might have jinxed myself a bit. I said percentage bodyfat was the goal and sure enough I lose weight but my bf goes up a bit. Yesterday was Friday night-took my wife to dinner and a movie-no working out. Ate 35 fewer calories than I burned. This is probably a little too close -probably need to burn a few more calories over what I eat than that just to account for my own mis calculations in entering portion size (eg 1 cup of rice or is it 1 1/4 cup rice). Thursday was a bit better. On Thursday I burned 488 calories more than I ate. I did 15 minutes of chin ups, 15 minutes on the rower,35 minutes on the speed bag and 40 minutes running. Not a bad workout day.

The Quest for a Six Pack

Oct 7-25,oct9-105,oct12-385,oct13-244

Weight 193.4 bf%18.8

I have been workingout for a few years, slowly creeping my way towards my goal of doing one million push ups/chins. I am a little leaner and a little fitter than when I started, but still no six pack. As a matter of fact I have never seen my six pack during my life time. I know that I have abs. I can feel them and they are a little harder than when I started working out, nonetheless they have never peeked out to see the light of day. I am determined to change all that. Motivated by an overindulgent weekend of Thanksgiving eating, I am starting a quest to unveil my abdominals. I have read that you need to get below 10 percent bodyfat to see the outline of your abs. Most of the time my body fat percentage hovers at about double this percentage, so this is going to be a bit of a challenge.
Here's my rules for myself during this challenge:
  1. Track everything I eat in my "Lose it" app for the i phone
  2. Track all the exercise I do in a day in "Lose it"
  3. Never go to bed without burning more calories than I eat

Pretty simple really and I have done it before. A few years ago I let myself gain an extra sixty pounds. It took me about a year to take this weight off, but I did it by tracking everything I ate in FITDAY. I did Stew Smith's Navy Seals workout. I didn't do any of the running or swimming outlined in the program. This time I am going to do the cardio so I should have quicker results. I will likely substitute swimming with rowing on the C2 rower. I might add a little heavy bag work or some kettle bell workouts if the mood strikes me. Tonight I did about 45 minutes of sit ups and variations of push ups, 15 minutes of rope jumping and 20 minutes on the heavybag. The first day results according to Lose it is that I burned 1138 calories more than I ate. It takes burning 3500 more calories than you eat to burn off a pound of fat, so today I should have burned almost 1/3 of a pound of fat. Not bad

Fate knows where you are going, but it is up to you to drive there.Michelle Keesling

Well a week back to work -lot of eating -not near enough exerise-one very bad combination. Guys week last week was full of skateboarding for an hour or two day with Joey and lots of workout time. Couldn't help but to burn extra calories. Oh well haven't gone above 200 pounds. As you can see on the graph to the right my weight has gone up and done all year-but the overall trend is down.
I started a new blog,the link is :

A man can be as great as he wants to be. If you believe in yourself and have the courage, the determination, the dedication, the competitive drive and if you are willing to sacrifice the little things in life and pay the price for the things that are worthwhile, it can be done.Vince Lombardi

I adjusted the calories left to burn back up to 42k. At 197 I have 12 pounds left to lose to be at 185 (12X3500 cal/pound + 42K). I must be systematically under-estimating my portions of food or fitday is over calculating my calorie burn. None the less I was in the ball park. Good news is I am down in weight again. Had a pretty late night at work on Wednesday and didnt get a workout in at all-and still lost some weight. I was up around 214 just after Christmas so I have lost about 17 pounds since then ( I weighed a little less when I started the fitday calorie count). Not bad for a routine mainly of push ups and chins ( some weights here and there) and no cardio. I am starting to think I should add some cardio-mostly for the fitness level. I haven't been doing any and the sets up push ups with out a lot of rest between seem to be getting me in better shape overall. The other weekend I went to the Y with Cathy and was able to run the treadmill for a half an hour without any trouble. So it appears my endurance is improving without any direct effort to do cardio workouts. Although I guess you could say that doing hundreds of push ups at a go-is sort of endurence work.
