Haven't posted in a while so I thought I ought to update my numbers. If you are a fan of the 100 push ups program or app-I noticed that they now have a program to help you get to 150 dips. The link to the  website is below. The program is on the website so you can buy the app for your phone or just follow the program off the website.

In my last post I said I was going to try to get a few 1000 push up/chin up days in a week. Well since my last post I have done zero days where I did 1000 push ups or chins. Talk about jinxing yourself. The good news is I have been fairly consistant this week in doing some push ups or some chin ups almost every day. On the 10 I did an hour of push ups.Sets of ten reps with 60 seconds rest in between-straight for an hour. Yesterday I did the same thing for chins. One hour but instead of sets of 10 I was doing mainly sets of three reps. This week I guarantee I will get at least one one thousand rep day done.

In the Zone

I must be in the zone or something this week -I mentioned a few days ago that I needed to hit over 560 push ups/chins a day to make a quarter of a million byNew Years. For some reason this week blowing past the daily average necessary has been a breeze.

I was checking out the Gym Jones website last night (Gymjones.com).
Gym Jones methods were the ones used to train the actors for the movie 300. ( Mark Twight was the trainer). The workouts are pretty intense and the site has a few articles about the preparation of the actors for the movie. If you click on the "schedule" page on the sight there is a daily work out of the day, which is similar to the training Gerad Butler and the other actors went through. All the actors were pretty ripped -it couldn't hurt to do a few of the workouts.

Anyone who does chins ups-or wishes they could do a chin up, had to be inspired by Will Smith in the movie I Am Legend. His wide grip chins behind the neck were awesome.
Well I don't think the hands are broken. They are a little thrashed from the long boarding and they hurt when I do push ups-but I can do them. I did over 300 tonight so I suppose they can't be broken. This is my 201st post on this blog- I suppose that means this push up/chin up thing is officially an obsession now.

I am having a little trouble keeping below my target weight goal line. I have been fairly close to the daily target weight-so I am not going to loss any sleep over it. I am still within striking distance of meeting my target for May 15th. Our usual Fast Food Friday with the family doesn't help alot- typically I spend the rest of the week trying to bring my weight down.

Week off

total push ups/chins 165,220
Thought I would do a quick post. The chin up/push up numbers are the same as the last post. My shoulder kept hurting when I did push ups so I decided to just take a week off and see if that made a difference. It has been about 5 days since I did any push ups, chins or any kind of other exercise. Tomorrow I am going to try to jump back on the bandwagon. I haven't weighed myself in about a week. Although I haven't been doing any exercise I have still been eating as if I had been working out. We will see what the damage is tomorrow also.

Found a new site that I have posted the link to over in the left hand column. It is called give me twenty seven ( http://www.giveme27.com/ ). The creator of the website quotes this New York Times article as the idea behind the website;
The idea is that based on national averages (U.S I am assuming) that the average forty year old man should be able to do 27 push ups in one set. With my new year goal of being able to do sets of one hundred push ups-I tested myself today. I can now do a set of 56 push ups straight-new record-awesome. Anyway the website is not a bad idea -you can track your push ups-compare to previous records, averages etc. On another note it was a good day for push ups. I did over one thousand. A couple of sets of 50's and lots and lots of sets of ten. It took me just over an hour. Not bad-I won't be setting any world records all that soon-but not bad for a guy in his forties.

Every once in a while when I do an internet search on something like kettlebells-I inevitably come across somebodies crossfit site somewhere. I hadn't really paid a lot of attention to these sites until a little over a week ago. The main site is:
Each day they post the daily work out or as they refer to it WOD . Kettlebells are one of the frequently used peices of equiptment. The site and organization claim to be focused on functional fitness. For most of this week I have been trying out some of thier workouts. Not the WOD -I think those would seriously whip my a**. The site has a few of the standard workouts -brand x -that they have scaled down into four levels of fitness. The regular length and intensity of the workout is the Big Dog and the beginner version is the Puppies. I have been doing the puppies version of these workouts for about a week (in addition to the push ups and chins-although most of the workouts have a lot of chins). I would say I kind of like and hate the workouts at the same time. Each workout has a slightly different focus, sometimes you are focusing on gymnastics, then olympic weightlifting, cardio curcuits-lots of variety in general. Anyway the website is worth a check out, and I am definately continuing to work on the push ups and the chins-but these workouts will add some variety for a while.

Since New Years I have been averaging 496 push ups or chins a day. My daily average for last year was 222-so January has been a good month. It used to seem like doing 200 or 300 in a day was a big deal-but now that I have determined to try to do at least 500 a day- I just seem to get them done somehow before the day ends. If I haven't got my 500 in a day I end up doing sets of 10 by the side of my bed until the 500 are done.

Attempted a maximum effort for chin ups last night-got 13-almost got a 14th.

Here is my fitday weight goal graph as of today. It is a little hard to read, but the straight line represents the trendline I will need to maintain to hit 185 by next New Years. The squiggly line underneath is my actual recorded weight to date. As you can see by the graph even with the ups and downs-I am apparently ahead of schedule to make this target. Of course the challenge is when I reach the sub 200 lbs point -but knock on wood. Haven't tested myself for maximum chins or push ups in a while-but my total daily numbers are going okay

New Years Goals

Dec31-220, Jan,1 -335.
total push ups and chins 142,617
2008 has ended and I have added a total of 81081 to my push ups/chin ups total. That works out to an average of 222 chins/push ups a day. Both of these numbers are an improvement on last years total of 61,201 or average of 167 per day. This is definately an improvement to be proud of buy I know I can bring both the yearly total and the average up-and will this year. This year at New Years dinner (Cathy had told us in advance that she was going to have us each do this) we all had to list a goal or several goals for the year. Not a resolution a goal , and the goal had to be measureable. Two of the goals I chose that relate to the goal of doing a million push ups and chin ups was to "be able to do 100 consectutive chin ups and 100 consectutive push ups. I figure 100 push ups is hard but achievable. ( I can probably do sets of 40 consectutive push ups). The chin ups will take some serious work as currently I can do sets of 10 consecutive-100 is a long way off.

The graph above is my weight loss according to fitday. If you could call it weight loss. Last Christmas day I weighed 214.5 pounds and today I weigh 201.5 -so you could say in a year I have lost about 13 pounds. However I have sort of lost the same thirteen pounds over and over again as you can see by the up and down action in the graph. This year I think the goal will be to have a little more consistant a trendline on the weight loss graph.
By the way Cathy liked the kettlebell,

Eleanor Roosevelt:
You must do the things you think you cannot do.

Year to date I am averaging a little more than 265 push ups/chins a day. Obviously some days I am doing nothing other days I am doing quite a few,but ytd it averages out to about 265. I have a google alert for the words "push ups" -the google alert sents me an email each day with all the posts on google that have the words "push ups" in them. I have noticed that quite a few people are trying the program I mentioned on my other blog( http://awesomebody-lmath.blogspot.com/). The program claims to get you up to one hundred push ups in a row. Certainly a worthy goal. Currently even though I am doing a couple hundred push ups a day- I can only do about 40 or so in a row. Usually I am doing sets of 10 or 20 to make up the total. Any way -if you try it -good luck. Let me know how it goes.

Let me tell you the secret that has led me to my goal: my strength lies solely in my tenacity.

As you can see my weight or the calories left to burn to my goal of 185 pounds doesn't seem to be plumetting downward. Howhever I am still getting some pretty decent push up and chin ups totals in at least half of the days of the week. Work being a little crazy and a lot of travel for work is affecting my workouts. Nonetheless as I mentioned about half the time I am getting some good workouts in. I have the words "push ups" as a keyword in google alerts and I am surprised how many people are posting on thier blogs that the are doing the 100 push ups program on this site: http://hundredpushups.com/. Good luck to all those people trying the program
