This is a photo of the new Magic Room in the Ronald McDonald House Southern Alberta. The shot doesn't quite do the room justice. Any child who is staying at the house and : completes chemo, has a bone marrow transplant, birthday or other significant life event, gets to take a trip to the magic room. The child enters the room and crosses a small bridge. They wave a magic wand and the door with the star magically opens. Behind these doors there is a throne in which we have the child sit. We have a magic cart which holds various magic tricks-so our staff/volunteers can do a little magic show for the child. Afterwards we hand them a key the size of a small childs arm. The key opens a door to the left and the child enters another small room filled with shelves of new toys. Essentially the child gets to pick any toy they want as a gift from the supporters of Ronald McDonald House. A number of corporate donors, church groups, schools etc donate new toys to replenish the Magic Room stores. In the current house our magic room is more like a toy closet-however each month -about twenty kids get to take a trip to the toy closet. In the new house we will serve many more kids and their families so-there will be much more magic handed out to kids at the new Ronald McDonald House.
