7 Dips

Feb14-7

total push ups/chins 342,257

It feels a little funny to post that I did 7 push ups or chins at the top of one of these blog posts. No ,the total number of push ups/chins is not sky rocketing upwards these days. I have been using weighted dips and weighted chins as two of the exercises in my Occam's Protocol workouts, at least this way I get to count a few reps towards my million push ups/chins goal. My total workout volume and number of reps is way down, quite on purpose of course. If you want to see how I am doing on my "Geek to Freak" or Occam's protocol experiment check out my new blog:

Occam's Protocol Day 21

Dec8=5
total push ups/chins 341,501
weight 200.4 bf% 19.2
We had a three day fundraising event that I was attending out of town this weekend. It was a great event but the downside for me was we had food everywhere for the participants and the volunteers. Early in the day Friday I gave up on trying to track what I was eating or how many grams of protein I was getting. There was food and munchies everywhere and I didn't control myself all that well. Even though we were working the event from early in the morning till late each night I did manage to sneak in a brief workout at the hotel. Nice advantage when you only have to get two sets of exercise in as a workout. Despite pretty poor self control on the diet side of the equation, by the end of the weekend I had actually gone down in body fat percentage. I may see my punishment for the indulgence tomorrow on the scale-but today looks pretty good. The scale tells me I am at 161.92 pounds of lean ( up 8.88 pounds since my Dec 20th start day for Occam's Protocol) and 38.48 pounds of fat ( down 4.68 pounds since Dec 20th). I know better than to get too excited about day to day changes on the scale as too many factors can make the daily variation fluctuate. For today, I will consider this progress and be happy with it.

Occam's Protocol versus the Cheat Day

Dec31-7
total push ups/chins 341,489
weight 199.2 bf%20.8
Yesterday I weighed in and my bf % was back up to 22%. Despite having a cheat day and eating (and drinking )pretty much whatever I wanted yesterday my Bf% dropped back down to under 21 percent this morning- you have got to love that. Yesterday by about 5:30 pm (the time our New Years Eve guests were arriving) I had eaten 200 grams of protein, After this point I really just stopped keeping track of what I was eating. I must of consumed between 5000-6000 calories during the entire day, but despite that my weight and bf% dropped. I did a ten minute workout in the morning, other than that no significant calorie burn-I like this Occam's Protocol thing so far. Progress to date -up 4.73 pounds of lean and down 2.17 pounds of fat since Dec 2oth. So far that is an average of about 0.43 pounds of lean gained a day.

New York Fries

total push ups/chins 341,482
weight 197.6 bf% 21.8
Bodyfat scales says- up 0.32 lbs of lean and down 0.92 lbs of fat since yesterday. Okay that is a better outcome than jumping to 23 percent bodyfat, trend going in the right direction. I mentioned I was going to aim to eat 250 grams of protein a day, yesterday I managed to eat 227 grams. As I said this would be a little easier if I was eating meat. We met the kids in the city to catch a movie. Didn't see anything at the concession that looked like it had a lot of protein ( or any other nutritional value for that matter)- so I opted for New York Fries. Hmm deep fried goodness. I am sure the numbers above would have been a little bit better if I skipped the fries, but what the heck one slip up.
It has been driving me a bit crazy- I knew I had heard of Occam's Razor before reading Tim Ferriss' book, but for the life of me I couldn't remember what it was about or who was Occam?
Anyway had to look it up for all of you out there waiting to know.
According to Wikipedia. Occam's Razor is attributed to the 14 century logician, theologian and Franciscan Friar Father William of Ockham.
According to the Skeptic's Dictionary: "Occam's Razor is also called the Principle of Parismony. These days it is usually interpreted to mean something like the simpler the explanation the better or don't multiply hypothesis unnecessarily"
Wikipedia does have a much more detailed description , for those of you who want to know, here's the link:
