Let's try this again

        Well I had almost forgotten about this blog. December 22 2012 was the last time I posted on this blog and up to that point I had done 434,418 push ups and chins ups. I started this blog after finding a few other blogs in which the authors were on their own quest to do a million push ups. This sounded like a pretty decent challenge but I decided to throw chin ups and pull ups in the mix. No sense disproportionately developing chest, triceps and shoulders, might as well have well round back and biceps development as well. Anyway I figure a few years have past-and it is time to finish this challenge off- the idea of leaving something like this unfinished is a bit unnerving.Last night I did 358 push ups and chins ups. Not 358 of each- but each chin up and each push up counts as one. So this brings my new daily total to :

434,776

Let's see if we can finish off this challenge

As you may have noticed I had some days where I hit some pretty good daily numbers for push ups and chins. I was trying to see if I could sustain high numbers of push ups and chins for a week or more. I was thinking if I could do a week steady at numbers higher than 1600 a day, I might be able to take a run at making it to my goal of a million push ups and/or chins within a years time. All was going fairly well, most days it was taking me at least 90 minutes sometimes more to get over 1600 in a day. Somedays these totals were actually achieved over two workouts in a day. I did decide to ramp it back a bit for two reasons. The first reason was my elbow and shoulder were sore all the time. I figured I was likely risking an injury that could sideline me from my goal all together. The other reason to ramp it down a bit was just plain old boredom. Knowing that I was trying to do at least 1600 push ups and chins in a workout was a little daunting. After a few days it was getting harder and harder to get motivated for a workout. I realize that some days I did well over 1600 reps, but really once you get started it wasn't a big problem to keep going. I was just worried that I would start to avoid some workout days altogether. Anyway, I know I can hit high numbers for a few days in a row. I am going to build back up to 300 or so a day. My elbow is still a little sore at the beginning of a workout -so I might keep it around 100 or so reps a workout for a few more days. I might just through the odd 1000 rep day in here and there just to get my total a little closer to the million mark.

Started this post a few days ago and forgot to finish it. In the name of "closure" I am going to quickly bang out the post. As I am pretty motivated to hit half a million push ups/chins by New Years, I am going to try to push the daily numbers up to 1000 push ups/ and chins a day. The last few days have been close- just need a couple hundred or so more a day- no problem

It was a good push up/chin up day yesterday-pounded out a 1000. Not all at the same time took me a workout in the morning and one in the evening. Nonetheless any day I do 1000 push ups and chins is a pretty good day. For my trouble I was down a pound or two this morning.

Well I have been dogging it on our Biggest Loser family competition. My son -in law is already down 12 pounds and well - I keep gaining and losing the same 4 or 5 pounds over and over again. The last two days I figured I better get my act in gear if I have a hope of catching everyone else in the family. The last two days I have done a thousand push ups/chins a day. It takes me about 60 -70 minutes to get that many done. Lots and lots of sets with about 30 seconds between each set. I am out of town on business the next two days-hopefully I will be able to keep this rate up for a few more days.

Found a new site that I have posted the link to over in the left hand column. It is called give me twenty seven ( http://www.giveme27.com/ ). The creator of the website quotes this New York Times article as the idea behind the website;
The idea is that based on national averages (U.S I am assuming) that the average forty year old man should be able to do 27 push ups in one set. With my new year goal of being able to do sets of one hundred push ups-I tested myself today. I can now do a set of 56 push ups straight-new record-awesome. Anyway the website is not a bad idea -you can track your push ups-compare to previous records, averages etc. On another note it was a good day for push ups. I did over one thousand. A couple of sets of 50's and lots and lots of sets of ten. It took me just over an hour. Not bad-I won't be setting any world records all that soon-but not bad for a guy in his forties.

Let me tell you the secret that has led me to my goal: my strength lies solely in my tenacity.

As you can see my weight or the calories left to burn to my goal of 185 pounds doesn't seem to be plumetting downward. Howhever I am still getting some pretty decent push up and chin ups totals in at least half of the days of the week. Work being a little crazy and a lot of travel for work is affecting my workouts. Nonetheless as I mentioned about half the time I am getting some good workouts in. I have the words "push ups" as a keyword in google alerts and I am surprised how many people are posting on thier blogs that the are doing the 100 push ups program on this site: http://hundredpushups.com/. Good luck to all those people trying the program

Bruce Feirstein:
The distance between insanity and genius is measured only by success.

You could sort of say I had another week off the wagon this week. Everyday a 12-14 hour day-so as you can see above the push up /chin up numbers were not so big. Yesterday I figured it was time to really get back on the wagon, so I made sure I did 1000 chin ups /push ups by the end of the day. This week is not quite as hectic so I am hoping to keep on the wagon this week.
